El Rey, reflects power, humility, and vibrance. Mila wanted to use really strong colors because afterall he is a king. The shadow behind him was made to reflect a depth in character. His pose is modest without being weak, and Mila loves that. She thinks its embarrassing to be someone with power and have no manners to control one’s own cockiness. Most importantly its vibrant and it feels good. The piece is uplifting, and with the black man being so commonly torn down, Mila wanted to express her art in a way that would do the opposite.
