Film: All Eyez On Me

Being a huge Tupac fan, I along with millions of others are highly anticipating the forthcoming film which has been picked up by Lionsgate for a summer release. In the twenty years since his death there have been many documentaries and films however this is the first biopic. The internet has been a buzz with behind the scene images of the cast who have a striking resemblance to the likes of Tupac played by Demetrius Shipp Jr and Suge Knight played by Dominic L Santana. After 2015’s Murder Rap by Greg Kading there has been closure on his murder after what many agree to be a substantial investigation.

After the announcement of his induction into the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame, this June’s release is going to not only be the icing on the cake for us fans, but very nostalgic. The big screen biopic will also give younger fans an insight into Tupac’s early life. Being raised by his mother Afeni Shakur who was a well known member of the Black Panthers, battled many hurdles and hardships, from poverty to drug addiction. As the time line will go on it will show his time with Digital Underground and how articulate he really was. Showcasing his other talents from poetry to his role as an actor in films such as Juice, Gridlock'd and Poetic Justice.

Along with all the excitement about this film comes the anxiety, being such a die hard fan I really do hope this film does his legacy justice. Personally it is important they depict Tupac for what he was, the most intellectual rapper ever, not just for me, but for those who had the wrong perception due to how he was portrayed in the media a ‘Gangsta Rapper’ or a ‘Thug’.
